MU On The Move Group

A Successful Summer for MU On The Move

A quick look at some successful fundraising from earlier this year.

01 Nov 2021

We hear from Caroline Wheeler of the Wickford and Runwell branch of Mothers' Union.

"After receiving the information about “MU on the Move” it set me thinking - what could I do?"

Sat in our church hall car park for our first meeting in almost 18 months, I said to my friend “do you think we could walk 14.5kms?” Yes, she said and so that was how it began.

Our members had been able to keep in touch with a monthly newsletter during the pandemic that was so gratefully received and many members contributed to with prayers, poems, and articles of interest.

I wanted to include everyone in the walk but knew we wouldn’t all be able to walk that far. I wondered, what if we walked past every members home?

With the help of my daughter we devised a route that included every members home in our town. There are only 3 members out of town who were not on the route

We managed to make the route very close to 14.5kms. Marking 145 years of the MU.

One day in July we set out to test the route. It worked perfectly.

We arranged the walk for a Saturday in August when the branch leaders grandson would be able to walk for her.

The day arrived, I was so thrilled, the weather was perfect and 11 members joined us for the start of the “Summer of Hope” walk.

We visited every member and even sang happy birthday to one members husband, we were greeted with candles on gate posts and even a dish of chocolates.  We planted a laminated flower with the MU logo in every garden.

At the half way point we were met with very welcome refreshments and had a picnic in the park.

Continuing on our way though the town we completed our walk being joined at various points by different members. We all had a wonderful time and a great sense of achievement.

To date we have raised £475.
